Rise and Fall and Rise of Columbia Heights lecture Wed. at the MtP library

If you're interested in learning more about the history of the neighborhood, get yourself to the DC Public Library's Mt. Pleasant branch this Wednesday at 6:30. Historian Brian Kraft will give a lecture titled the Rise and Fall and Rise of Columbia Heights.

It certainly sounds interesting. I would imagine he'd talk about the neighborhood's start as a residential suburb, those changes over time, and the 1968 riots which destroyed a lot of the commercial buildings on 14th. Here's more from the Library:
In this lecture, Brian Kraft will present a sweeping view of the history of Columbia Heights that mirrors the history of Urban America. He will trace the neighborhood's beginnings, physical development, demographic upheavals, and recent resurgence, with maps, photos, and other images.
